Bowie Motorcyclist Killed After Being Thrown From Harley In Maryland Identified By Sheriff

A 77-year-old man from Bowie who was thrown from his motorcycle has been identified by the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

William Prater Carpenter was on a three-wheeled Harley-Davidson motorcycle that left the roadway on Wednesday afternoon when he was involved in a one-vehicle crash that claimed his life.

The crash was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the area of Bumpy Oak Road and Marshall Corner Road in Pomfret.

According to a spokesperson from the sheriff's office, it is unclear why Carpenter left the roadway, where he was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

The crash remains under investigation.
